Melania Trump is used to turning heads with her fashion-forward style, but her latest look isn’t necessarily a universal hit.

The first lady wore an all-white ensemble to join President Trump in hosting President Emmanuel Macron of France and his wife, Brigitte Macron, for a White House state visit Tuesday morning.

While the French first lady opted for a classic sheath with a matching jacket, Trump channeled Dynasty in a belted skirt suit with an asymmetrical peplum detail. The blazer is a Michael Kors design priced at $2,195.

All eyes were on her dramatic choice of headgear, however: an oversized white hat with a wide, flat brim, also by Michael Kors.

Social media was quick to react to the look, with some praising it as “classy” and others poking fun. Some suggested that the hat should have its own Twitter account.

Trump could inspire a style trend.

Or, she may just inspire some jokes — and comparisons to Curious George‘s Man in the Yellow Hat and Scandal‘s Olivia Pope.

Perhaps more controversially, she did not remove her headgear while the French and the U.S. national anthems were played.

What’s your take? Did the style risk pay off — and should she have taken it off during the anthems?
