Men arrested for missing court appearances for assaulting police officer, impaired driving

Threats, assault, employee theft reported on northeast Avalon Wednesday

Two men were arrested in St. John's this week after police said they failed to appear in court to answer previous charges.

A 45-year-old man charged with assaulting a police officer after a November 2015 incident was due in court earlier this month but failed to show, said police. An arrest warrant was issued Oct. 14.

On Tuesday afternoon, the RNC received a report that the man had been spotted on King's Bridge Road. He was arrested and held for court Wednesday morning, and is now facing a charge of failing to appear.

Also this week, a St. John's man charged with impaired driving was arrested and charged with missing a court appearance. The man was stopped by police in December 2015 after a report of a possibly impaired driver.

A urine sample from the man was sent for testing, and in July the man was charged with impaired driving after police say the sample tested positive for multiple drugs, including morphine.

Police say the man missed a court appearance Monday, and an arrest warrant was issued. Early Wednesday morning, the man was stopped by an RNC patrol. Police ticketed him for driving with a suspended licence, and he was held to appear in court Wednesday morning.
