A Meota man accused of killing his wife is seeking bail.

Michael MacKay, 39, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Cindy MacKay.

Defence Nicholas Stooshinoff waived Michael MacKay’s attendance and told North Battleford Provincial Court on April 9 that MacKay had a show cause hearing in Court of Queen’s Bench on April 8 and the judge reserved the decision. Stooshinoff asked for an adjournment in provincial court until after the Queen’s Bench judge decides whether or not MacKay will get bail.

Judge Kevin Hill adjourned the matter until April 16.

Cindy MacKay was taken to hospital in medical distress on Feb. 7, 2020. She died on Feb. 12, 2020.

MacKay was arrested in Warman on March 18, 2021.

Meota has a population of about 304 people and is 43 kilometres northwest of North Battleford.
