Mercedes-Benz Stadium roof has leak before National Championship Game

ATLANTA — The roof at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is closed for the National Championship Game, but water is still making its way in.

Rain is leaking through the roof at the stadium. The drip is at a hash mark near the 20 yard-line on Georgia’s side of the field, according to multiple Georgia outlets. We couldn’t see the drip on the field from the sidelines, but Georgia staff and players were seen looking towards the roof in that spot.

A spokesperson for the CFP declined to comment when asked about the leak by Yahoo Sports. The general manager for the stadium confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that water was “dripping” from the roof. It’s clearly not severe enough to impact the football game between Alabama and Georgia and we can confirm there is no bucket on the field to catch the water.

It’s not the first time the roof at the over $1.6 billion retractable-roof stadium has had leak issues. A leak happened at an event in October and the stadium has said it will fix the underlying causes after football season.
