Members of the Merritt RCMP detachment were called to a business at the intersection of Voght and Nicola on Tuesday, March 23 in response to a bomb threat.

Front line officers attended, cleared the store and launched a criminal investigation. No explosive device was located during a search of the building.

A female suspect was identified and arrested as a result of the police investigation. The woman taken into police custody has also been identified as a possible suspect for multiple shoplifting incidents, over the past week, around the Merritt area.

The full findings of each of the concurrent criminal investigations will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for charge assessment. The 35-year-old Merritt woman faces a number of potential criminal charges. She is set to appear before the courts on July 20, 2021
