Metallica plans first concert of 2020 at drive-ins across the country
The rock crowd is finally getting its night at the drive-in.
Following similar offerings by Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton earlier this summer, Metallica is bringing its concert filmed exclusively for drive-ins to outdoor screens across North America on Aug. 29. It will be the band's first show in nearly a year.
"As many of you know, we have not played together for quite some time, actually since the S&M2 concerts last September. But that's all changing now," drummer Lars Ulrich announced on Metallica's Instagram page.

Metallica will be the first rock band featured in the Encore Drive-In Nights series, with a full set showing at hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada. The concert will feature music from their near four decade career.
Tickets are $115 per vehicle (up to six people) and go on sale Aug. 14 at noon. Each ticket includes four digital downloads of Metallica's forthcoming "S&M2," the live album recorded over two nights in September with the San Francisco Symphony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their 1999 collaboration. The drive-in theaters hosting the concert series will be adhering to recommended COVID-19 guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as all state and local health mandates. Staff members will be wearing face coverings and enforcing social distancing of six feet between cars. Other sanitation measures include contactless payment for tickets as well as limited restroom capacity. Guidelines for concessions will vary by state.
