Metro-east man among two dead after crash on I-64 near O’Fallon
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 were closed near O’Fallon early Christmas morning as investigators sorted out the cause of a fatal crash.
Two people died as the result of their injuries, according to Illinois State Police. St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified one of the victims as Christopher M. Sahs, 34, of the 100 block of North Fourth Street, New Baden. The other is Quincy Jones, 41, of the 800 block of Hume Avenue, St. Louis, Dye said.
A crash was reported at mile marker 19 near IL 158 at 3:23 a.m. Wednesday. State Police said in a statement to the BND that a Lexus driven by Jones was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck Sahs’s Ford head on.
Jones was taken to HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. Sahs was pronounced deceased at the scene, Dye said.
Illinois State Police are investigating.
