The Miami Dolphins will be without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for at least three weeks.

The Dolphins placed Tagovailoa on injured reserve on Saturday after he fractured multiple ribs in their loss to the Bills last week, the team announced. They also brought up Reid Sinnett, as he will back up starter Jacoby Brissett this week in Las Vegas.

Tagovailoa took a big hit from Bills defensive end A.J. Epenesa in the first quarter of Buffalo’s 35-0 win last week, and had to be helped off the field before he was carted to the locker room.

Tagovailoa has thrown for 215 yards and completed 54.8% of his passes through two games so far this season, and has thrown one touchdown. With him landing on IR, Tagovailoa won’t be able to return until their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 17 in London at best.

Jacoby Brissett to start for Dolphins

With Tagovailoa out, the Dolphins will instead turn to Brissett this week for their matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Brissett went 24-of-40 for 169 yards last week with one interception after Tagovailoa went down.

Brissett joined the Dolphins this season on a one-year deal after spending time as Andrew Luck’s replacement with the Indianapolis Colts. The 28-year-old threw for more than 2,900 yards and a career-high 18 touchdowns during the 2019 season with the Colts, his last as a full-time starter, though he went just 7-8 on the year.

Brissett and the Dolphins are currently listed as +4 underdogs on BetMGM for their matchup with the undefeated Raiders on Sunday.

“We’ve got full confidence in him as we do with Tua,” Dolphins receiver Albert Wilson said, via ESPN. “We don’t feel like we took a step back with him. We’re excited to have this challenge and move on to better things.”
