Miami’s floating movie theater is back, and this time you don’t even need a boat
Movie theaters are now allowed to reopen in Miami-Dade County. But if you’re still not ready to sit in a theater, we have an alternative way to watch a movie that doesn’t involve sitting on your couch.
Don’t drive in. Boat in.
Yes! Boat-in movies are back, allowing viewers to watch movies from the comfort of their own socially distant boat.
No boat? No problem. This time, some on-land, open-air spots will be available at nearby parks and beaches, with places to buy food and drinks.
Ballyhoo Media hosted the first boat-in movie adventure in July with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” shown on a double-sided, 60-foot floating LED screen.
Now, the floating cinema continues on Saturdays for six weeks from Sept. 26-Oct. 31.
First up is a fitting movie: Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” the monster movie that launched a thousand nightmares for anyone who was a kid in the 1970s.
The other films in the series are “Finding Nemo,” “Moana,” “Jumanji,” “Halloween” (2019) and “Hocus Pocus” (on Halloween, naturally).
