Michael Schmidt found not guilty of drunk driving

A 32 year old Yukon man has been found not guilty of impaired driving causing bodily harm in an Alaska Highway crash that permanently paralyzed one of the passengers.

The judge found it could not be proven that Michael Schmidt was criminally impaired at the time of the Dec.14, 2009 crash.

Schmidt was originally found guilty in 2011 of impaired driving causing bodily harm, but not guilty of having a blood-alcohol level over the legal driving limit. Schmidt appealed the conviction and won a new trial.
