Michelle Obama Just Shared the Best Throwback Pic for Barack’s Birthday
Michelle Obama—Grammy winner, social media icon, infinite fountain of wisdom, podcaster—has just blessed us with an incredible throwback pic. In honor of former president Barack Obama’s 59th birthday, she posted a casual family snap from a few years back, along with the sweetest caption.
It’s not clear exactly when or where the photo was taken, but given how young Sasha and Malia look in this picture (they’re 19 and 22 now), it must have been a while ago. Everyone looks relaxed and happy in their finest vacation wear, posing in front of a coastal scene—and yes, the photograph captures a khaki-on-khaki ensemble that’s peak 2000s dad.
Alongside the photo, the former FLOTUS shared a short and sweet celebratory message: “Happy birthday to my favorite guy. Here’s to all the good days, blue skies, and new adventures to come. 😘.”
Barack and Michelle Obama have been married since 1992, and Michelle regularly treats us to throwbacks from years past as well as updates on her current projects. She’s involved in voter registration efforts with When We All Vote, helping girls around the world access education and training with the Girls Opportunity Alliance, and she just launched a podcast on Spotify!
The first guest on the first episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast was, of course, Barack Obama himself. During the 30-minute conversation, they talked about their upbringings and family ties, and she also revealed a little bit about their love story.
“One of the reasons I feel in love with you is because you are guided by the principle that we are each other’s brothers’ and sisters’ keepers,” she said. “And that’s how I was raised.”
These tiny glimpses into their long-lasting marriage are much appreciated bright spots in an extremely bleak news cycle. Happy birthday, Mr. President!
