Midlands man accused of 2 sexual assaults on SC college campus
A Bowman resident has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct for allegedly assaulting two women on the campus of South Carolina State University, according to the university and SLED.
Davon Johnson, 20, has been charged with one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and one count of third degree sexual conduct by SC State Police.
On Oct. 18, S.C. State police responded to a report of a sexual assault at the Hugine Suites, a campus residential complex. A second victim later came forward and alleged that the same man had sexually assaulted her on Oct. 15, according to a statement released by SC State.
The victim in the Oct. 18 attack identified Johnson as her assailant in a photographic lineup, according to a warrant released by SLED. Johnson and another acquaintance, whose name is not included in the warrant, accompanied the victim to her dorm room to view messages on her phone, which was charging.
After the acquaintance left, Johnson forcibly “fondled the victim and removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her,” according to the warrant. Johnson allegedly physically assaulted and choked the victim.
Johnson was arrested Wednesday by SLED with assistance of the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
SLED’s investigation as “active and ongoing,” according to a statement from the agency.
Following his arrest, Johnson was taken to the Orangeburg County Detention Center. His bond was denied Wednesday in Orangeburg County Magistrate Court.
The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
