Migratory birds dumped in garbage bags in ditch in Delta, B.C.

Five garbage bags filled with dead birds have been dumped in a ditch in Delta, B.C., and conservation officers from the B.C. government and Tsawwassen First Nation are investigating.

A member of the public originally reported the birds to the B.C. Conservation Service as dead bald eagles two weeks ago.

When the last of the bags were pulled out of the ditch today, however, conservation officers said they appear to be migratory birds, including ducks and Canada geese.

They've been rotting for approximately four weeks in a ditch near Deltaport Way and 41B Street, according to the conservation service.

Conservation officers are still investigating what happened, but say they may have been dumped by a hunter or poacher.

"It is possible that they were shot either legally or illegally and then the parts were dumped," said conservation officer Robin Sano.
