Mike Soroka, Calgary high school pitcher, drafted by Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have selected Calgary high school pitcher Mike Soroka 28th overall in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft.

The Bishop Carroll High School senior, who graduates on June 19, made the announcement Monday night on Twitter.

"It's very special to be one of the top Canadians taken in the draft," said Soroka. "I have worked very hard throughout my career and I'm excited for what the future holds."

Soroko was one of two Canadians selected in the first round of the draft. The 17-year-old joined the junior national team in 2013 and pitched 13 scoreless innings against Dominican squads last month.

Since the news broke, Calgarians and Braves fans have been sending Soroka plenty of love on social media.
