Mildmay-Carrick pool liner to be replaced

MILDMAY – South Bruce council approved $160,000 to replace the pool liner at the Mildmay-Carrick swimming pool at their Jan. 26 meeting.

The capital project for the removal and installation of a commercial pool liner was initially approved in 2020. The company rescinded the quote after they investigated and found further work was required to complete the job.

Recreation and Facilities Manager Shawnette Crouse told council members that it requires timely approval to ensure that the liner and work are completed in time for the 2021 pool season.

The actual cost included in the quote from Acapulco Pools is $146,393. The remainder of the money is a contingency fund to cover any extra work found while removing the old liner.

The company also suggested that they would deduct $2,500 from the contract value if the old liner is reusable.

Mayor Robert Buckle inquired about the liner’s colour and asked if it could be changed. Crouse told council that the standard colour is blue due to conformity among swim teams but said it could be modified if requested.

Funding for the project will come from the Mildmay Carrick Swimming Pool reserves ($85,000) and the Community Well-Being Fund ($75,000).

The estimated project completion date is May 2021, depending on the weather.
