Milford man arrested after 10 hour standoff with police

Man, 25, dies after car collides with transport truck near Clarenville

A 63-year-old man has been arrested after a 10 hour stand off with police in Milford, N.S. in Hants County, according to the RCMP.

Paramedics and fire personnel received a medical call from a residence on Bayberry Dr. around 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. While inside the house a man told the emergency workers he would burn the building down and that he had a gun. He also allegedly made threats against police.

The emergency responders got out of the building and called police.

RCMP officers from three detachments arrived a short time later and asked people living nearby to evacuate their homes or stay in their basements until the situation was resolved.

A crisis negotiator along with two police dog units were called into help.

After talking with the 63-year-old man police entered the house and arrested him at 12:40 a.m. this morning.

No one was injured.

The home was searched following the arrest and a .22- calibre rifle was seized.

The 63-year-old man will face several charges including some firearm related offences said the RCMP.
