Émilie Bernard performs with Jamie Cullum after video pitch

A unique video from a woman originally from Charlo turned into a performance with U.K. jazz musician Jamie Cullum at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Émilie Bernard now teaches music to elementary students in Montreal.

In a personal effort to lose weight, she decided to make a video pitch to Cullum.

She vowed to lose 52 kilograms if he would agree to let her sing backup for him when he was in Montreal.

Cullum says he thought it was a cool idea.

"I just thought her video was so cool and she was persistent and she seemed like a cool girl, she's a musician, she's a teacher so why wouldn't I," he said.

The two opted to perform "Everything you didn't do together."

It's a song Bernard says that motivated her "to run faster, stronger, better and it's motivated me a lot to pursue my journey."

After the show, Bernard said the opportunity was exhilarating.

"It was an out-of-body experience," she said.

"I never thought I would get the chance to sing or even be two feet away from Jamie Cullum and I got to sing and hug him."

Cullum said Bernard is an excellent singer.

"She's like a professional session singer, so I had a free professional session singer it was amazing," he said.

Bernard said she had a little time to prepare with him before the performance.

After that she went back into the concert hall and waited to be called up on stage.

"I knew about when I was supposed to come up and sing and I came up and sang and my life has for ever changed," she said.

"It represents to me the end of my weight loss journey and the beginning of my healthy lifestyle journey and musically speaking, once you've sung with Jamie Cullum, it's kind of good to put on your CV and it gives me confidence in my singing so this is truly a dream come true."
