Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson are a match made in Raccoon City.

The actress and director, who met while working on the first Resident Evil film, have been together since 2002. The couple got married in 2009 and have welcomed three daughters together: Ever, Dashiel and Osian.

In an Instagram post for Father's Day 2021, Jovovich wrote a sweet tribute, sharing her love for Anderson.

"You’re never too tired or impatient, you never make any of your girls feel like you’d rather be anywhere but with us," she wrote in the caption. "You set the bar so high every morning and by bedtime it’s risen even higher. The love you show is golden, it makes me thank god I was so clever to have babies with you and find the time to marry you in between."

From their Parisian engagement to their eight films together, here's a complete timeline of Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson's relationship.

The couple met while making the first Resident Evil film of the series, which Jovovich starred in as the protagonist Alice and Anderson directed. Based on the popular video games of the same name, Resident Evil was the first of six films in the franchise in which Anderson and Jovovich would work together.

In a 2017 Resident Evil oral history, Jovovich revealed that she and Anderson almost didn't get together at all, as a series of rewrites from Anderson removed many of her scenes, nearly driving her to quit.

"Paul ended up coming over that evening, and we literally sat for three hours and went through the script, page by page," she explained. "He was like, 'What do you mean? This didn’t change that much?' So I was like, 'OK, why don’t we start with page one?' I pointed out every time I felt like my great scenes were taken away. That was how we started our relationship."

"The first two letters are after my mom's first name, Galina and the last two letters are after my dad's first name Bogie!" she said. "We just got home from the hospital with her yesterday, so when I get a bit more settled I will write everyone to let you know about the whole experience! Two years after the birth of their daughter, Jovovich and Anderson got married in a sweet backyard ceremony in their Beverly Hills home at sunset. Jovovich wore a long dress from Temperley London’s Bridal Collection as she walked down the aisle, which was decked out with red and white floral arrangements. The couple exchanged matching 18-karat Neil Lane classic gold wedding bands to go with Jovovich’s vintage engagement ring.

At the reception, the wedding's 100 guests — including Ever, the couple's flower girl — were entertained by Cuban drums, and enjoyed a round, four-tiered white cake decorated with a ribbon. "I can’t live if I don’t have 10,000 things to do!" Jovovich told PEOPLE of wedding planning at the time.

Jovovich and Anderson teamed up once again for The Three Musketeers, a romantic action-adventure film directed by Anderson and starring Jovovich that premiered on Oct. 21, 2011.

At the world premiere in London on Oct. 4, Jovovich and Anderson walked the red carpet together, where Jovovich had some choice words to say about the film. "I haven't seen the finished product," she joked to The Mirror, "so if it isn't good, my husband's going to get a hook in the ribs with a short stick."

Anderson didn't take the comments too seriously. "She's my harshest critic and I'm her biggest fan, so when she's happy it makes me very happy, and so far she's been happy," he said.

While Jovovich said doing fight scenes in a corset and 30-pound skirt was "one of the hardest things I've ever done in an action film," Anderson called her "ravishing" in the Musketeers' period attire.

When Jovovich announced she was pregnant with her second child with Anderson on her Facebook page, she confirmed that it would delay production of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which ultimately premiered in 2016.

"So after a lot of discussion, we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to wait till the baby is born before we set out to try and tackle [a new Resident Evil] movie,” she wrote. "Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn’t think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo!"

Once the baby was born, Jovovich and Anderson hoped to take the entire family to South Africa for filming.

"I imagine the only thing I’ll be killing in the near future is an endless supply of cupcakes," she added. "Yikes..."

In August 2019, Jovovich announced on Instagram that she was expecting her third child, joking that she was "knocked up again." The couple waited to tell the world, however, because she "didn’t want to get attached to this potential baby too quickly" after experiencing pregnancy loss.

"That was obviously not fun and the last few months have been my family and I living on pins and needles waiting for a slew of different test results to come in and spending most of our time in doctors offices," she explained. "Thank goodness we’re in the clear AND we found out that we’ve been blessed with another girl!"

But before she could get a chance to announce the good news, Jovovich said that Ever, who was 12 at the time, "spilled the beans" about her new sibling without Jovovich's knowledge by posting the family on Instagram.

"Welcoming Baby!" Ever wrote. "Welcome to the world my new sister Osian (pronounced O-shun like the body of water)! We love you!!!"

The next day, Jovovich herself shared details on Instagram about her "miracle baby," including her unusual name.

"Osian is a welsh boy’s name and it’s pronounced O-shin," she wrote. "Now I know the name is long, but the family couldn’t agree on her middle name. Ever and my mom wanted Lark, @dashielanderson and I wanted Elliot. Then my husband Paul chimes in with another vote for Lark, so Smushy and I were out numbered 😛! At least she has many names to choose from later in life if she wants to drop a few."

"She’s so beautiful!" she continued. "Her hair is lighter than the other girls was and she’s very strong. Her little hands get in the way and they’re hard to control and she’s already lifting her head up to see what’s going on!"
