Millie Bobby Brown’s look at the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards is drawing criticism for being too “mature” for the teenage star.

The 15-year-old “Stranger Things” actress was one of the first mega-stars to hit the red carpet, sporting a trouser and coat-dress ensemble by Louis Vuitton. Brown, who frequently wears designs from the luxury French fashion house, opted for youthful makeup in soft neutral colours and completed the look with diamond accessories from Cartier.

Brown told reporters that the Louis Vuitton team created the look especially for her, bringing her vision of an androgynous high-fashion look to life.

“It’s everything I kind of wanted,” Brown said in an interview with People. “I definitely wanted to go for a masculine, but very feminine look - and they got it right as per usual.”

The U.K born star revealed that her life has changed dramatically since landing the role of “Eleven” on the hit Netflix series in 2016 and reflected on her career thus far.

“It’s changed drastically. It’s also been my forming years of being a teenager,” she said of growing up on camera. “I think I’m becoming stronger....it’s difficult because I’m still growing.”

While many felt Brown’s look was a fresh take on red carpet fashion, the star and her team quickly came under fire for what many felt was an inappropriate look for a teenage girl.

“Millie Bobby Brown’s stylist should be sacked,” one social media user tweeted. “She is just 15-years-old but looked at least 30 at the SAG awards last night. So disturbing.”

“Her makeup and dress is what aged her, but to be honest, this isn’t the first time her team has put her in something that makes her look twice her actual age,” another Twitter user wrote. “I think they’re trying to brand her in a mature image, but it’s definitely cringey to see.”

“Too much cleavage on a child’s outfit,” another woman echoed.

Brown’s fans were quick to jump to her defense, reminding critics that the young actress has the right to wear what she chooses.

“Funny how people can say stuff about Millie Bobby Brown being young, but they are quite happy to talk crap her,” one person wrote. “If you think she should act like a child then stop attacking her, she is after all just 15 and yet some people feel it's ok to insult her.”

“All you weirdos complaining about a 15-year-old’s outfit that she obviously feels comfortable in, please get off the internet,” added another fan. “We created this society - stop being mad at women and young girls for committing to the bit.”

“Y’all are literally bashing this girl for looking better than all of y’all,” said another. “Who cares if she’s 15? Stop shaming her for looking nice.”
