Millie Bobby Brown says she nearly lost her engagement ring in a wild underwater proposal
  • Jake Bongiovi proposed to "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown during an underwater dive.

  • Brown recalled how she dropped the ring in the water after the proposal.

  • Bongiovi managed to catch the ring by diving further down.

Millie Bobby Brown said she dropped her engagement ring when Jake Bongiovi proposed to her underwater.

She recalled the unusual proposal in an appearance on Jimmy Fallon's talk show on Thursday.

She said Bongiovi proposed during a dive, and that she came close to losing the ring.

The couple were friends for a while before they started dating in 2021, but eventually made their relationship public on Instagram. Fast-forward to April 2023 and fans speculated that the pair were engaged after Brown was seen wearing a ring.

At the time, the pair didn't tell fans how the proposal happened. But Brown told the story on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."

The "Stranger Things" star said that the couple love diving and that they got their licenses together, before she recalled how Bongiovi took her to a spot they'd visited frequently.

"So we go under, and we're like many meters down. And he gives me a shell, and I turn it over, and it's a ring. And I looked at him and he was like "bllllll!" she said, imitating Bongiovi's muffled speech underwater.

Brown said the ring then fell off her finger as she showed it to him.

She recalled: "Anyways, he puts the ring on my hand, and as I go to show him, the ring falls off my finger, plummets so fast it was like a cinematic movie."

Brown praised her fiancé for quickly diving and grabbing the ring before it fell any deeper, even though it worried their instructor.

"Jake threw himself into the… like, so deep. The diver was like 'You can't do that, your ears. Literally, your brain will explode.' He does a cinematic grab, and he saved the ring," she said. "And I truly feel like it's a reflection of who he is, and we're always going to have each other's back, and if anyone drops the ball, we got it."

When they got to the surface, Bongiovi told Brown he bought a separate ring because her mom wouldn't let him use her engagement ring in case it was lost.

"'I bought you this ring because your mom wouldn't let me take her ring,' which is the one I'm wearing, this is her ring," Brown explained. "My Mom was like 'Absolutely not Jake, you're not taking my ring down there, I know you'll drop it.' And sure enough, I did."
