Million Acts of Kindness tour featuring Toby the dog stops in Calgary
Toby the dog was on hand to supervise the cleanup of Shaganappi Park — the first Calgary engagement on his cross-country Million Acts of Kindness tour.
Members of Calgary's Evolutionary Business Council donated their time to pick up dog waste and cleanup garbage from the park in southwest Calgary.
Toby, a Chesapeake Bay retriever, is the inspiration behind a 15,000-kilometre adventure to "change the world through kindness," says his handler Charmaine Hammond, a former corrections officer turned public speaker.
The pair set off from North Vancouver on Sunday. They will be travelling across Canada and parts of the U.S. in their RV, visiting schools and workplaces and organizing community events, all in a bid to inspire a million acts of kindness.
Another event planned for Monday
"Kindness doesn't need to cost money or time. It's simply showing up and being there for the world in a kind way," said Hammond.
After the Shaganappi Park cleanup, Toby was scheduled for two presentations to non-profit groups in the afternoon. He will wrap up the day at Petland Canada's Shawville Road location.
Next up, he has stops in Airdrie, Red Deer and Edmonton, but he'll be back in Calgary on the holiday Monday for a family fun "TAILgate party" at Petland Canada's Coventry Hills location on County Village Road.
