Ministry of Municipal Affairs offering disaster recovery info sessions

Ontario's Ministry of Municipal Affairs is offering two information sessions for those in Windsor-Essex whose homes were damaged during flooding in August.

More than 6,000 homes in Windsor and Essex County were damaged in the flooding that followed record-breaking rainfall on Aug. 29.

Homeowners in Windsor, LaSalle, Essex, Tecumseh, Amherstburg and Lakeshore are eligible to apply for relief through the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program, but there are no guarantees they will receive financial aid.

The program provides "partial financial assistance to return essential property to its basic function," according to the ministry's website, but flooding caused by "sewer backup is not generally eligible under the program" though "there is a special provision to provide assistance to low-income households."

During the sessions, ministry staff will explain eligibility requirements and how to complete an application.

Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians sessions:

Date: Thursday Sept. 28, 2017

Location: Caboto Club, 275 Parent Ave. Windsor

Session 1: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Session 2: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
