'Missing' Canadian woman on her way home from Mexico

A Canadian woman reported missing in Mexico is safe and on her way home.

Carroll Cotton, 73, is from B.C. but lives in Elmsdale, N.S. Her daughter Ann Cotton reported her missing after she flew to Puerto Vallarta on Monday to meet a friend.

Ann Cotton said her mother checked into her hotel, and then checked out the same day, but did not meet up with her friend. Her family grew worried when they did not hear from her.

But on Sunday, Ann Cotton said her mother is safe and flying back to Canada. She blames a miscommunication for the scare.

Cotton said a consulate official called her at her Vernon, B.C., home early Sunday to say her mother had arrived for her flight from Puerto Vallarta to Halifax.

"I've been up all night hoping and praying everything would be OK, and it has. Everyone down here in Canada is so happy that mom's turned up at the airport, because we were all very worried," Ann Cotton said Sunday.

Carroll Cotton's flight is due to arrive in Halifax Sunday afternoon.
