Missing Girl, 8, Found Safe After Driving Mom's Car to Target: 'We Did Let Her Finish Her Frappuccino'
In an incident report, police said the girl told them she hit a mailbox at one point during her travels
An 8-year-old girl is now safe after she left home and drove her mother’s car by herself to go shopping at a Target store in Ohio, authorities said.
According to an incident report from the Bedford Police later shared with PEOPLE, officers arrived at a home in Bedford around 9:15 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, after being notified of a missing juvenile and a 2020 Nissan Rogue. Authorities said that the girl’s family members last saw her around` two hours earlier.
Ring camera footage from a neighbor showed the girl leaving the residence and driving off in the SUV alone, police said.

Bedford Police added in its report that officers found the girl inside the Target store in Bainbridge, Ohio. Her family members later arrived at the store to retrieve her and the car.
The girl also told police that she hit a mailbox during her travels, per the incident report.
In a statement on social media, the Bedford Police Department shared a humorous take on what happened, writing, “Well I’ve finally found a woman who’s in more of a hurry to shop at Target than my wife. More of hurry by 8 years."

“She’s now home safe,” the department added. “Not sure what she bought, or if she was even able to use her Target app to save 5%. We did let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not mean.”

Authorities said the girl was not criminally charged due to her age, adding they were glad there were no injuries, Fox affiliate WJW reported.
When contacted for comment on Monday, Sept. 16, a Target spokesperson told PEOPLE they were aware of what happened and were grateful no one was injured.
