Update: Missing woman’s remains found buried in yard of Myrtle Beach home. She is named

A South Carolina man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a missing person and murder case from 2022, according to Myrtle Beach Police.

Sheridan Dirk Fogle, 54, of Orangeburg, was arrested about 7:30 a.m. on charges of murder, according to a Facebook post.

The arrest warrant originated from a missing person case and the original incident on May 11, 2022, in the 600 block of 1st Avenue South.

As stated in the original report, the identified victim had been living with the offender. Further investigation revealed that due to statements made by her neighbors, there was reason to believe that she may have been buried near the residence, in the backyard, under a fire pit.

On June 12, 2024, investigators obtained a search warrant for the property. During the search, the victim’s remains were recovered and identified.

The remains of Penni Whiteside, 51, who was last seen in the spring of 2022, were found in the yard, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email.

According to a listing on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, the last contact with Whiteside was made on Jan. 3, 2022.

Information on her Facebook page says that she moved to Murrells Inlet in January 2020.

This is a developing story.
