Mission possible: Soldiers deliver Christmas hampers in Winnipeg

Dressed in their fatigues and with their breath frozen in the air, dozens of soldiers gathered for a special holiday mission in Winnipeg Saturday morning.

With military precision, army reservists delivered Christmas Cheer Board hampers as part of Operation Parcel Push.

"We pick up Christmas hampers here at the Cheer Board and we take them out to families who are less fortunate so they can have a happy holiday," said 2nd Lt. Kyle Atwell.

It was Atwell's third year participating in the project, and he said it can be a special feeling for the families to have a "bunch of guys in green walking up to hand them a Christmas hamper."

"We do this so we can give back to the community," he said.

The tradition began in 1984. Each year, the soldiers and cadets use military vehicles to make the deliveries.

Last year, they distributed 400 hampers in Winnipeg's North End.
