The eagle eyes of Missouri firefighters saved a trapped bald eagle.

On Monday, Mid-County Fire Protection District (MCFPD) firefighters were dispatched to a helicopter landing to assist with a patient transfer. There, they saw something unusual, according to a press release on the MCFPD Facebook page.

"During this response, the ambulance they were assisting noticed a bald eagle in the ditch line," the press release read.

"MCFPD units assisted the helicopter in landing and taking off for transport of the patient. After the emergency call was finished, the ambulance and MCFPD units went back to assist the eagle," MCFPD continued.

Because the firefighters were more familiar with saving humans than birds, MCFPD contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation for help.

“The animal was injured and was taken to our station to await conservation agents,” the release explained. The rescue post also included photos of the first responders holding the bird and smiling.
