Marner on re-signing with Maple Leafs: 'I’m exactly where I want to be'

The wait is finally over.

Mitch Marner has re-signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The star forward took to Twitter on Friday night to send a message to fans after his new deal with Toronto was officially announced.

The contract is for six years and carries an annual average value of $10.893 million, locking him up until the end of the 2024-25 season.

And while I’m sure nobody is happier than Marner’s camp about the signing, others have chimed in with their excitement about the news. Montreal Canadiens star and former London Knights teammate Max Domi congratulated the 22-year-old, while Leafs legend Doug Gilmour also seemed to be in good spirits about the situation.

Additionally, Canadian comedian Gerry Dee piped in with a comment in reference to a small street in St. John’s, Nfld. — where the team opened up training camp Friday — that is absolutely filled with bars.

When Marner arrives, there’s little doubt George Street will be full tilt.

Naturally, Leafs fans who had been waiting for what seems like an eternity to hear this news were also sharing their joy on Twitter.

Now that Marner is going to be with Toronto for the foreseeable future, we won’t have to hear about his contract status for quite some time.

That should be something we can all get behind.
