Mitchell Nippard pleads not guilty to Paradise home invasion charges

During a court appearance judge Colin Flynn called "confusing," Mitchell Nippard entered a not guilty plea to nine charges relating to a violent break and enter in Paradise last month.

Nippard is one of four men collectively facing more than 150 charges in five separate home invasions between Feb. 3 and Feb. 8.

While all four appeared in provincial court in St. John's via video conference from Her Majesty's Penitentiary, Nippard was the only accused to enter a plea.

Lawyers for the other three accused — Tyler Donahue, Gary Hennessey and Abdifatah Mohamed — say they have not received any disclosure from the Crown prosecutors.

Ken Mahoney, Nippard's lawyer, indicated he had received disclosure on the nine charges relating to a violent home invasion on Angels Road in Paradise on Feb. 9. After entering not guilty pleas on those charges, he said he has not seen disclosure on the other four invasions.

The incident on Angels Road was filed separately by the Crown, Mahoney said. Those charges were filed on Feb. 10, while the other four incidents were filed together on March 3.

All four men will appear in provincial court again on Friday.
