Ariel Epstein breaks down her top plays for the MLB DFS slate on Friday, July 15th.
ARIEL EPSTEIN: Welcome to Yahoo Fantasy. I'm the Prop Queen Ariel Epstein with a pitcher and two hitters to put in your DFS lineups tonight in Major League Baseball. Let's start with the pitcher. I'm looking at the $36 play on the Cleveland Guardians right-hander Zach Plesac. I always like to see which pitchers are up against teams with higher K rates.
In this case, Plesac's got the Tigers, who have the fifth highest K rate against right handers. Even though Plesac isn't necessarily a K machine, his strikeouts should go up a bit here against Detroit. Plesac also has a better ERA at home than he does on the road with a 2.85 at home and a 4.93 on the road.
Speaking of on the road, the Tigers have the worst OPS on the road in baseball and the second worst against right-handed pitchers. Speaking of right-handed pitchers, I'm going to put Zach Plesac in my lineup tonight.
Onto the offensive side. For $20, I'm going to play the Colorado Rockies DH Charlie Blackmon. He's up against the lefty Jose Quintana. The Pittsburgh Pirates starter has struggled against Blackmon with Blackmon going 6 for 10 against him with a double, a home run, and RBI. Blackmon's also hitting above .300 this year against left-handed pitchers, hitting above .300 when playing at Coors Field.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that Charlie Blackmon is up against the third worst bullpen in baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates. I don't care if it's Quintana. I don't care if it's the bullpen. Give me Charlie Blackmon in my lineup to face any of those pitchers in Pittsburgh.
For my last play, he's $11, and that's Atlanta Braves second baseman Orlando Arcia. He's hitting .429 in his career against Patrick Corbin, the Nats starter. In addition to the fact that, at Nats Park this season, Arcia is already 7 for 9 with two home runs.
Arcia hits better on the road than he does at home. Plus, the Washington Nationals' bullpen ranks 24th in baseball with a 4.37 ERA. Whether it's Corbin, whether it's the bullpen, Arcia should have a really good shot at hitting the ball hard and getting multiple hits tonight at Nats Park.
Here's your MLB DFS recap. For $36, I'm playing the Cleveland Guardians right-hander Zach Plesac. For $20, Colorado Rockies DH Charlie Blackmon is going in my lineup, and for $11, Atlanta Braves second baseman Orlando Arcia.
