Moderate earthquake reported east of Peace River, Alberta, Thursday morning
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck 44 kilometres ESE of Peace River, Alta., Thursday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake occurred at 8:59 a.m. (MDT), and registered at a depth of 10 kilometres, the USGS said.

That earthquake was the stronger of two being reported in the area, with the first registering at a 4.8--magnitude just 13 minutes prior.
“We have received no reports of damage at this time,” stated Earthquakes Canada [https://earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/recent/2023/20230316.1459/index-en.php], adding that the earthquake was “lightly felt.”

Moderate earthquakes are not uncommon to the region. In November 2022, a series of earthquakes were reported in northern Alberta, with one of them being the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the province, registering at a magnitude-5.8.
