Mom and son hit by car in Miami, sending them to hospital and closing road, cops say
A mother and her young son were seriously injured after being struck by a car in Allapattah on Friday morning, closing a road and sending them to a hospital, according to Miami police.
The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. during peak rush-hour traffic at 1793 NW 20th St.
Police say the mother, about 20 years old, and her 5-year-old son were hit by a car, but police said it was due to the mother’s error.
The mother crossed mid-block instead of at the intersection. One driver stopped to let them cross, but another didn’t see them because the first car blocked the view, police say
Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with serious injuries, but are in stable condition.
Police say the driver remained on the scene.
As a result of the crash, police closed Northwest 20th Street between 17th and 19th Avenues, but it has been reopened.
