Monaco Royal Family’s Christmas Card Photo Strikes a Decidedly Different Tone Than Last Year’s Snap
Gone are the tuxedos and ball gowns, replaced by a casual living room feel
The royal family of Monaco has released their annual Christmas card!
Prince Albert, Princess Charlene and their twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella have led the way, becoming the first royal family to release their holiday card this festive season. The photo shows the four wearing neutrals and posing in a living room scene, complete with a Christmas tree, garland, candles and a fireplace.
The photo was posted to the royal family of Monaco’s official Instagram page on Dec. 2 and was captioned “The Princier Palace is pleased to share with you the photo of the greeting card of the Princier family.”
Princess Charlene, 46, wears a Ralph Lauren knitted jumper and jeans, according to Tatler, and the shot was captured by trusted family photographer Eric Mathon, who also took last year’s Christmas photo for the Grimaldis. As opposed to this year’s more casual, homey shot, last year’s photo was quite a different vibe, with Prince Albert, 66, matching his 9-year-old son Prince Jacques in a tux, with Princess Gabriella, also 9, clad in a burgundy velvet dress and Princess Charlene dazzling in an off-the-shoulder gown.
The Christmas card release comes as the family are getting into the holiday spirit. Earlier this week, the family gathered outside the Prince’s Palace to switch on Monaco’s famous Christmas lights, which this year featured an LED reindeer among glowing fir trees. On Saturday, the family visited the Place du Casino, where they admired the Christmas display there, Hello! reported. While there, the family saw an 18-meter high tree and five giant animated Christmas balls.
In addition to the upcoming holiday, twins Jacques and Gabriella have a big week this week — on Dec. 10, they turn the milestone age of 10! Charlene recently opened up to French magazine Gala about her twins, sharing that her son and daughter are both “curious.”
“Gabriella is very curious,” Charlene said. “She is very intrigued by the world and life in general. She asks lots of questions and demands a lot of attention.”
“As for Jacques, he is curious and observant,” she added. “More reserved, he is naturally very calm.”

Though both Jacques and Gabriella have a shared curiosity, “The conversations I have with Jacques and those with Gabriella are so different, as well as the time spent with them,” the princess shared.
