Moncton thefts from vehicles prompt warning from police

Police in New Brunswick have issued a warning about thefts from vehicles.

Codiac RCMP say they have responded to nearly 100 such calls in the Moncton area alone during the month of July.

Police say items stolen included electronics and money.

Sgt. Eric Larose says almost two-thirds of the incidents involved vehicles that weren't locked, something he says is preventable

"What we're asking people, keep your vehicle locked," he said. "Even in your driveway when it's unattended. And also, if you have to leave valuables put it in the trunk and lock the vehicles. That's the first step."

Larose is also asking residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods, such as people loitering around parked vehicles.

One man has been arrested and charged in connection with some of the thefts.
