Moncton Wildcats hope for win as team nears record losing streak

The Moncton Wildcats will be looking for a win today to avoid getting closer to setting a new Quebec Major Junior Hockey League record for the longest losing streak.

The team takes on Sherbrooke Phoenix at the Moncton Coliseum at 4 p.m.

The team is hoping the win will break their streak of 25 straight losses.

The league record for consecutive losses is 27, set by the Shawinigan Dynamos in 1975-76.

Coach Darren Rumble said the team's struggles this season are the result of trading some veteran players whose careers in the league would soon end because of their ages.

"We felt like it was time to restock the cupboards, move those guys," said Rumble. "A little short-term pain for long-term gain here, which is what we're going through right now, big time."

The team has 13 wins, 42 losses, two overtime losses and one shootout loss.
