Montague's art trail receives expansion funding
The Town of Monatgue, P.E.I. will receive $314,000 to expand the Montague Centennial Art Trail.
The federal funding will see 10 new commissioned art pieces added to the trail, updated lighting, and bilingual interpretative signage for the art work.
Canadian Heritage Legacy Fund will provide $164,000 for the project along with a non-repayable contribution of $150,000 from ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund.
Through a partnership with local development corporations and community non-profit groups, the town committed to engaging residents in the culture sector.
The town's goal was to boost the local economy, add more for tourists to enjoy while creating jobs and opportunities for local artists and businesses. After the success of Artisans on Main, the Centennial Art Trail was formed in 2014.
"The expansion of our Art Trail will help beautify the town, and attract new visitors to Montague," said Mayor Richard Collins.
"The economic spinoffs from this project will be felt by all businesses in the town and surrounding areas."
The new art pieces will be launched in the summer as part of the town's Canada 150 celebrations and the town's 100th anniversary.
