Montreal goes green for St. Patrick's Day
Montreal is going all in celebrating St. Patrick's Day, with City Hall lighting up in green in honour of the Irish holiday.
Sunday's parade marks the 194th edition of the event, where tens of thousands of people will gather to watch the procession at noon as it kicks off at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Fort streets.
Half a million people are estimated to have attended last year's St. Patrick's parade in Montreal, the longest-running St. Patrick's Day parade in North America.
Organized by the United Irish Societies of Montreal, this year's parade features more than 20 floats and several marching bands.
Once again, Mayor Denis Coderre will be the parade's Grand Marshal, with him showing off his Irish heritage in style. Coderre has Irish roots stemming from his maternal grandmother's side.
The CBC crew will be marching in the parade again this year, greeting people and handing out sweets.
