Montreal man puts up fake election posters for no real reason

Montrealer Tyler Lemco has been posting fake election signs that carry his image for no specific reason whatsoever, he says.

"A lot of people think I'm poking fun at the election," said Lemco, former founding member of EpicMealTime and current rapper and writer. "Other people are tagging these posters as street art on Instagram. But my No. 1 intention is to have no intention at all."

Asked why he wanted to put up the signs in the first place, Lemco said: "I saw a lot of Liberal signs up. They looked ominous and creepy. So I decided to try my own and send them to my friends."

He said he has been shocked by the reception the signs have been getting, as well as the media attention.

Lemco claims that only one out of the five original posters he put up remains.

As for the cost of the signs, the 27-year-old says each one set him back roughly $20.

"I decided to cap the expenses at $100, because how much money do you want to spend on a joke?

However, Lemco is thinking of replacing the posters that have been taken down.

"I think all of the signs got taken down. Maybe there's one left. I might put up some more, but I won't make a new sign. I don't trust myself to make another good sign. I'm not a graphic designer."

Of course, Lemco isn't the first person during the election campaign to parody Liberal campaign posters in Quebec. The "ominous and creepy" design has led to satirical signs for candidates such as the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire, Freddy Krueger and Darth Maul.
