Montreal police say they have no suspects in a Friday evening stabbing that left a 23-year-old man dead.

Police spokesman Const. Raphael Bergeron says police were called to an alley in downtown Montreal around 8 p.m. after a passerby noticed an unconscious man.

Bergeron says the man was rushed to hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say the man was stabbed with a sharp object, possibly a knife, in the upper body.

Bergeron says the man was not known to police.

He says this is the 27th homicide on Montreal island this year.
