Montreal police said Friday their investigation was ongoing into the early morning discovery of two bodies in an apartment in the city's Le Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

Officers found the bodies of a man and a woman after being called to the apartment on St-Urbain Street near Fairmount Avenue about 3:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers quickly found one body in the apartment and then discovered a second body after searching the unit.

Both bodies showed signs of violence and the deaths were declared at the scene.

Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant said investigators have identified one victim, a 31-year-old man. The female victim had not yet been identified nor had police determined the connection between the two.

Brabant said police were still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding what happened.

He said homicide investigators were expected to be present at the scene for several more hours on Friday.
