Montreal police seek 2 suspects in Garda truck attack

Police arrest 2nd suspect in Garda truck heist

Montreal Police are searching for two suspects after a brazen attack on an armoured truck in Pointe-Claire.

A Garda truck was parked behind a mall on Holiday Avenue near St-Jean Boulevard on Friday afternoon when two guards from the company left the truck to go inside Home Depot.

Two suspects then barricaded the guards in the building, before ramming the back door of the truck with a bulldozer and raiding the contents of the Garda truck.

Police do not know how much money the two suspects took before they fled the scene.

No one was injured and an investigation is underway.

In a statement, the union representing the security guards said it was relieved no one was injured but that the provincial government needs to ensure the safety of employees transporting valuables and large sums of cash.

"Now is the time to act so that the transporting of valuables will finally be safe for everyone, in every situation," said union president Jean-Luc Brosseau.
