Montrealers will get to choose their next mayor from a long list of candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.

In total, ten candidates are vying for the top seat at City Hall.

Those include outgoing mayor and Projet Montréal leader Valérie Plante, former mayor and Ensemble Montréal leader Denis Coderre, Mouvement Montreal leader Balarama Holness, Action Montréal's Gilbert Thibodeau and Montréal 2021's Luc Ménard.

There are also five independent candidates: Beverly Bernardo, Jean Duval, Fang Hu, Wilder Jules and Dimitri Mourkes.

Everyone vying for a chance to either become the next mayor of Montreal, a borough mayor, a city councillor, and a borough councillor had until 4:30 p.m. on Friday to submit their candidacy.

In total, 347 people will be jostling for the 103 elected positions that are up for grabs in the city of Montreal. There are 65 people who will sit on city council, once elected.

Projet Montréal has candidates for all of them. Ensemble Montréal has five fewer candidates due to a deal it made with the outgoing borough mayor of Anjou.

Luis Miranda endorsed Coderre. In exchange, Ensemble Montréal will not present any candidates against Miranda's Équipe Anjou party.

Mouvement Montreal will have 74 candidates in each of the city's 19 boroughs, following a surprise decision to merge with Ralliement pour Montréal.

Action Montréal has 22 members seeking election.

Parties vying for boroughs, not the big seat

Miranda's Équipe Anjou party is one of six parties with candidates only running at the borough level.

Sue Montgomery's Courage party in Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, and Team CDN-NDG are both fighting for positions within that borough.

The other borough-only parties are Équipe Lasalle, Parti Outremont and Quartiers Montréal, headed by Giuliana Fumagalli, the outgoing mayor of Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension.

The elections are set for Nov. 6 and 7.
