A Mooresville police officer was charged Tuesday with misdemeanors related to misconduct involving a woman he met, officials said.

Officer David Stephen Brashear, 45, of Mount Holly, was charged with resist, delay and obstruct and accessing computers, according to a police statement.

Brashear is accused of misusing government-issued devices and databases after an encounter with the woman at a local establishment, police said.

“This may not be an isolated incident,” police officials said in the statement, urging anyone with more information about Brashear to call police Capt. Jaime Quinn at 704-664-3311.

“Mooresville Police Department is committed to maintaining community safety and security,” according to the police statement.

Police Chief Ron Campurciani didn’t reply to a voicemail message Tuesday.

Police didn’t name the establishment in their statement or say how the officer is accused of misusing government devices and databases. Town spokeswoman Rika White said the misconduct is alleged to have occurred in early October.

Police declined to say if Brashear is still employed with the town, and if so, whether he is on paid or unpaid suspension. The department wouldn’t disclose who reported the allegations to the police or how police learned about the allegation.

Anjanette Grube, spokesperson for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, said the SBI was not involved in the case.

At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the town issued a media statement announcing the arrest of an officer and a 2:30 p.m. news conference at police headquarters.

The town soon issued another statement saying the news conference had been canceled and later issued the statement announcing Brashear’s arrest.
