More charges laid against former VPD detective
BC's Criminal Justice Branch has approved more charges against former Vancouver police Det.-Const. James Fisher. They include two counts of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust in relation to a witness in a criminal investigation.
The charges are in addition to six other charges laid in December, including three counts of sexual exploitation, one count of sexual assault, one count of breach of trust and one count of attempt to obstruct justice, according to court documents obtained by CBC News.
In December 2016, Vancouver police Chief Adam Palmer said one of the alleged victims is a juvenile and another an adult.
In 2015, Fisher received a chief constable Unit Citation for "extraordinary dedication" for his work in the Counter Exploitation Unit.
He was the lead investigator in the unit's recent human trafficking investigation that led to the conviction in September 2014 of Reza Moazami on 30 counts of prostitution and sex assault-related offences involving 11 girls and young women between 14 and 19 years of age.
Fisher was suspended with pay December 2016, but VPD Staff Sgt. Randy Ficham says Fisher retired in January 2017.
Fisher is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court, May 30.
