More charges laid in weekend seizure of 24 dogs in North Preston

More charges have been laid against 18-year-old Makell Aaron Cain as a result of the seizure of 24 dogs in North Preston last weekend.

Cain, who is the son of the other man charged in connection with the incident, is now facing four additional counts under the Animal Protection Act.

They include failure to provide the animals with water, with reasonable protection from the heat and cold, confining animals to an inadequate space with unsanitary conditions and no exercise, and causing animals to be in distress.

24 American Staffordshire Terriers, including several newborns, were seized from a North Preston home on Oct.4.

Cain was initially charged with using a vehicle as a weapon to threaten police, after they allege he crashed a vehicle into the SPCA van on nearby Lake Major Road.

His father, Warren Cain, is also facing charges in connection with the incident.

The two accused are to appear in Dartmouth Court on November 17 at 9:30 am.
