More eateries applying for permits

THUNDER BAY — New eateries are expected to soon open in Thunder Bay.

“We have permit applications for tenant setups for a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant and for a BarBurito in the Thunder Centre,” says Penny Kok, the director of building services with the City of Thunder Bay.

Both restaurants will be located adjacent to the Tbaytel retail store.

Kok says there was a permit issued earlier this year for a tenant set up for BarBurrito in the Brentwood Village Mall on Arthur Street as well. Edo Japan will also open in Brentwood Village Mall.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, founded in New Orleans in 1972, is an American chain of fried chicken restaurants where patrons can dine in southern flair with their mild or spicy signature chicken and their hot buttermilk biscuits.

BarBurrito will serve popular Mexican food including tacos, burritos and quesadillas.

From sushi platters and noodle meals to rice bowls and bento boxes, Edo Japan will provide a variety of “Japanese-inspired deliciousness.”

“At County Fair Plaza, we issued a permit for a bank building and inside a second building, a gas bar canopy with a gas bar, convenience store, retail store and a restaurant with drive thru,” said Kok. “We have an application for tenant setup for the restaurant Burger King (in the County Fair location) and that hasn’t been issued yet.”

A new cannabis retail store will also open at 949 Fort William Rd., beside Canadian Tire.
