Snow arriving this afternoon could make for messy commute

We've faced the cold, now here comes the snow.

CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland gives a range of four to eight centimetres of snow for the GTA, arriving early afternoon. He warns road conditions are likely to worsen over the day, with the evening commute looking messy. Blowing snow will also cause visibility problems for drivers.

Today's forecast is calling for Toronto to receive about five centimetres of snow today.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and much of southern Ontario.

"The snow from this clipper will likely have considerable impact on the afternoon and early evening commute home from work," reads a statement from Environment Canada.

Some areas north and west of Toronto will see higher snowfall amounts, with up to 15 cm possible in the Grey-Bruce area, across Muskoka into the Ottawa Valley.

The statement also warns that conditions could change and the special weather statement may be upgraded to a weather watch or warning.
