While This Morning pranked Holly Willoughby live on air last year for April Fools' Day, the show has decided to eschew the tradition this year.

At the start of today's (April 1) episode, Holly and Phillip Schofield revealed they wouldn't be playing any pranks on the show during the episode, due to the more serious situation in the world with the coronavirus.

Starting the show celebrating Phil's birthday, Holly told viewers: "As well as it being Phil's birthday today, it's also April Fools' Day.

"Obviously with everything going on in the world, we're not going to be playing any practical jokes today," her co-host then revealed.

"But in a bid to keep our spirits lifted, we are going to be throwing back to last year in what was quite possibly the best April Fools ever shown on television, we think."

Reminding viewers of the prank that saw a makeover guest — unknown to Holly — pretend to break down crying over her new look, Holly admitted: "You made me cry! It's normally me that gets fooled by these sorts of things, so I feel kind of safe today."

Phil then admitted: "Nobody ever got me even when I was at school, because I never woke up on April Fools' Day not knowing it was April Fools' Day, because it was my birthday."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
