These Are The Most Hated Words In The English Language

A worldwide search to find the most unpopular words in the English language have thrown up some not-too-surprising results.

Currently, the top most hated word in the UK by far is ‘moist’, followed closely by - somewhat surprisingly - ‘British’.

Completing the top five are ‘Brexit’ (presumably from unhappy Remainers), ‘censorship’ and ‘no’ - we’re not negative Nancys in Britain.

The hatred of ‘moist’ is not just confined to Britain, either - it also features in the top five for the Netherlands, Canada, Australia and the United States.

And the word even became a trending topic last night when it was used by presenter Mel Giedroyc on the Great British Bake Off to describe how she wanted everyone’s lemon drizzle cakes to turn out.

The word ‘no’ features in the top five list of several countries, while the word ‘love’ is currently the most hated word in India, followed by ‘sorry’.

Spain seems to not be a fan of ‘hello’, while ‘yes’ features in second place - just above ‘no’.

‘Panties’ is not popular with Australians - which may or may not be surprising.

Over 10,000 people have so far taken part on the vote on the #OneWordMap website, set up by Oxford Dictionaries.

And while there is still time to vote, were predicting that ‘moist’ will take the dubious honour of the most hated word in the world.
