The most Ottawa proposal ever: Couple gets engaged on OC Transpo bus

Chelsea Werba was finishing her OC Transpo route on Thursday night when she got a call from transit control. They were sending over special constables to investigate graffiti on her bus.

But when her boyfriend got on board, she knew there was no graffiti.

Elvis Azzi met Werba when he started working as a special constable for OC Transpo. He said he knew that when he proposed to his girlfriend of one year, it had to be aboard her bus.

"I knew this is where I wanted [the engagement] to start," Azzi said. "I wanted it to be unique — and the last place you expect to get proposed to is at work."

Ottawa's first OC Transpo proposal

Planning it with his partner — who filmed the engagement — Azzi said they carefully picked the place, time and the cover story. They even arranged for OC Transpo's control room to make that fake graffiti call.

The pair of constables arrived at Billings Bridge to "investigate" after Werba's shift ended on Thursday.

"I was so confused at first," Werba said. "Then I realized I was being filmed, and I knew, and I was shocked."

Azzi got down on one knee while Werba was still in the driver's seat; she said she wouldn't have it any other way.

"It was very thoughtful," she said. "I know all the steps he would have had to go through to get approval."

This was the first proposal on an OC Transpo vehicle.
